Ronald Ossory Dunlop (1894-1973)
R.O.Dunlop was a painter in oil of landscapes,
seascapes, figure studies, portraits and still life. He was born in Dublin and studied at Manchester School of
Art, Wimbledon School of Art and then Paris.
He exhibited widely including the Royal Academy, New English Art Club,
Leicester and Redfern Galleries, Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Hibernian Academy
and the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts. His first solo exhibition was in 1928 at the Redfern gallery.
Dunlop founded the Emotionist Group of writers and artists in 1923 and
his own work is characterised by painterly exuberance.
His work is in a number of public galleries including the Tate gallery.
He wrote 'Understanding Pictures' and his autobiography ' Struggling with
Paint ' in 1956. R.O.Dunlop lived
at Barnham in Sussex.
