Clarke Hutton 1898-1985
Clarke Hutton was a painter; lithographer and book illustrator. He was born and lived in London. Hutton studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in the late 1920s. Hutton’s figures and landscapes were exhibited, under the initials C H, at the RA, LG, RI, Redfern Gallery and elsewhere. The British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum hold his work. He illustrated about 50 books for publishers in Britain and America. Some of Hutton’s later pictures were of a Surrealist type, rather in the manner of John Tunnard.
