Frank Lewis Emanuel was a painter, printmaker, draughtsman and writer, born in
London. After attending the Slade School of Fine Art
From the late 1880s he began to show at the Royal
Academy and Paris Salon, also exhibiting at the New English Art Club, Royal
Institute of Watercolour Painters and many other galleries.
Emanuel had a varied career travelling widely in Europe,
Africa and Ceylon; being
examiner for the Royal Drawing Society; publishing art criticism and
topographical drawings in the Manchester Guardian and Architectural
Review; and teaching etching at the Central School of Arts and Crafts,
1918-30.
The Tate Gallery holds his picture Kensington Interior. He
lived in London.
