Robert
TAVENER 1920-2004
was an
illustrator, printmaker designer and lecturer, born
in London. He trained at Hornsey College of Art 1946-50 He carried out
many book illustrations and did Commissioned work. Tavener showed widely in
group exhibitions and had several dozen solo Shows. He was a member of the Royal
Society of Engravers and Printers and Society of Industrial Artists. He
exhibited for 34 consecutive years at The Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions Over
2000 prints were bought for national collections in Britain and abroad,
including National Museum of Wales in Cardiff; Towner Art Gallery in Eastbourne;
Victoria &
Albert Museum; and Yale University, in America.
