Veronica Burleigh 1883-1949
Veronica Burleigh b1909 was a landscape, figure and portrait painter, the daughter of Averill and Charles Burleigh, who were both well-known artists. She studied at the Slade School of Art 1927-30, under Henry Tonks and she gained a scholarship in 1929. She exhibited at the New English Art Club, the Royal Academy, and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Society of Women Artists. Burleigh’s work was mainly portraits until1970 when she moved to the country, living in Henfield, Sussex. For 20 years she commuted yearly to Rhodesia where she held 23 one-man shows.
